The interconnectivity of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s relations and issues with the Russian Federation and the republics that emerged from the collapse of the Soviet Union (Central Asia, Caucasus) highlights the importance of understanding these regions. In response to the various needs of the country in this field, the “Center for Central Eurasia Studies” (formerly the “Central Eurasia Program”) began its activities in 2005. This center seeks to study and research various issues of the Central Asian and Caucasus republics, as well as the Russian Federation, such as state-building, nation-building, foreign relations, terrorism, security, women, civil society, Russia’s relations with former Soviet Union members, politics, environment, drugs, and domestic and foreign policies of countries in this region, especially from the perspective of the national interests of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
